Overview of the Commitment

ROOTED is a full-time discipleship journey within the life of City on a Hill Church in Benoni, South Africa.

Students intentionally set aside this season to pursue Jesus and learn to follow Him in everyday life through teaching, prayer, worship, Scripture, serving, outreach, mentoring, community life, and practical involvement in the rhythms of the church.

Because ROOTED is more than a classroom experience, students are expected to participate wholeheartedly in the full journey — including scheduled sessions, church gatherings, serving opportunities, community rhythms, and shared life with others.

This is a significant commitment, but one we believe can be deeply formative for those who are hungry to grow and ready to give themselves fully to the journey.

Within the Life of the Church

ROOTED is a discipleship journey within the life of City on a Hill Church in Benoni, South Africa. We believe disciples are formed not only through teaching, but through belonging to a spiritual family, walking with leaders, serving faithfully, worshipping together, and learning to follow Jesus in everyday life.

Students are invited into the rhythms of church life — including gatherings, prayer, worship, community, service, ministry, and mission — as part of their formation.

ROOTED is therefore not simply a course to complete, but a season of being planted, shaped, and equipped within the body of Christ.

Program Options

ROOTED offers two pathways depending on the level of commitment you are able to make.

Full-Year Program (Recommended)

The full-year program provides the greatest opportunity for deep and lasting formation. Over the course of a year, students are given the time needed to establish steady spiritual rhythms, grow in maturity, and experience the fruit of consistent obedience and shared life.

We have consistently seen that when students are able to commit to the full year, the depth of formation and long-term fruit is significantly greater. For those who are able, the full-year program is strongly encouraged.

Half-Year Program

The half-year program offers the same core rhythms and values within a shorter commitment. This pathway allows students to step into the ROOTED journey over a focused season of growth and formation.

Together we will prayerfully confirm whether ROOTED is the right next step

Acceptance into ROOTED is approached relationally and prayerfully, with care given to clarity and readiness for the journey.

A Note on Discernment

Many people who sense a stirring toward ROOTED also feel unsure, unready, or aware of their limitations. This is often part of stepping into a season of growth.

ROOTED is not about having it all together, but about being willing to say yes to a journey of formation. We encourage applicants to come honestly before the Lord, trusting that He meets us in obedience and faith.

Our team is always available to walk with you, pray with you, and help bring clarity as you consider this step.
